4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows[a] that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. 6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of us all.
Footnotes: a. Isaiah 53:4 Or Yet it was our sicknesses he carried; / it was our diseases.
It's true, we all went astray. We all chose to follow our own desires, yet it was predestined by God that he would come and save us. He saw it; he knew... So he chose to come and die for our sins, that we might be reunited with him!
Philippians 2:6-8 New Living Translation (NLT)
6 Though he was God,[a] he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges[b]; he took the humble position of a slave[c] and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,[d] 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Footnotes: a. Philippians 2:6 Or Being in the form of God. b. Philippians 2:7 Greek he emptied himself. c. Philippians 2:7 Or the form of a slave. d. Philippians 2:7 Some English translations put this phrase in verse 8.
Don't allow yourselves to be deceived; was the LORD's beauty appealing to all? does he really look like the nice images they show us?
Isaiah 53:2 New Living Translation (NLT)
2 My servant grew up in the LORD’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him.
After they were done with our LORD and after everything he suffered, this is what the bible says he looked like...
Isaiah 52:14-15 New Living Translation (NLT)
14 But many were amazed when they saw him.[a] His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man. 15 And he will startle[b] many nations. Kings will stand speechless in his presence. For they will see what they had not been told; they will understand what they had not heard about.[c]
Footnotes: a. Isaiah 52:14 As in Syriac version; Hebrew reads you. b. Isaiah 52:15 Or cleanse. c. Isaiah 52:15 Greek version reads Those who have never been told about him will see, / and those who have never heard of him will understand. Compare Rom 15:21.
...Disfigured... He knew what he had to go through; the bible even says that his sweat was like great drops of blood, knowing what he had to go through for us, but it was out of love...
John 3:14-17 New Living Translation (NLT)
14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.[a] 16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
Footnotes: a. John 3:15 Or everyone who believes will have eternal life in him.
This life of seeming perfection... it use to be beauty in the simplest terms... Now we all are told one thing about achieving flawless features from society and maybe that's what the images tried to portray of him, but it was a kind of flawed image of the greatest gift God gave us. Do we let this discourage us, of course not. Something inside wants to understand how someone could love and know that death was upon him, but stayed the course somehow... not of this world was this idea of love that surpassed all understanding and led to crucifixion with the criminal conviction of self righteous men. how am I suppose to understand JC if he led this life and defeated him that stole so much from us, and all that is believed is that no one is allowed to achieve that path that he hath layed for us. This is the madness that hath bound us, but then has someone so victorious over strife in all forms, couldn't have been ugly, for his inner light revealed and drove away the darkness. His physical features would melt away in this world and not compare to the greatness and honor that comes with a sacrifice so great as God would prevail in those times and all time to come. Believe it... drawing us closer to the promises of life, brother.
Wow, you are a skilled writer. I on the other am not at all lol From what I gather is that this world has a distorted view, and Jesus the full expression of God's love; and he came and took our sins upon him. More so that we too must walk with God and carry our cross, and suffer with him. God is Good!
